Stephanie Spong Named New East and Winter Park Campus Director, Faculty and Instructional Development

A Message from Stacey Johnson, President, East and Winter Park Campuses

Please join me in giving a warm welcome to our new campus director, faculty and instructional development for the East and Winter Park Campuses, Stephanie Spong.

Stephanie joined the Valencia family in June 2016 as a faculty developer/instructional designer on the Title V project. In her work with the Title V team, she collaborated with various deans and faculty in the development of a new faculty advising model and supported faculty development courses associated with the Title V grant. In her transition, Stephanie was immediately impressed by the warm welcome she received from deans, faculty, staff and the team in the Center for Teaching/Learning Innovation.

Before she arrived at Valencia, Stephanie earned her Ph.D. in English at the University of New Mexico (UNM). While at UNM, she cultivated her skills as an online instructor in technical and professional writing and composition courses, and developed programming for the University’s recently created Center for Teaching and Learning. Her work in the Center for Teaching and Learning and her scholarship in online multi-modal instruction inspired her interest in both collaborative pedagogies and mentorship. At UNM, Stephanie also served on the Writing Across Communities advisory board and served as a coordinator for the community writing center, where she was able to engage with instructors from multiple disciplines to explore the purpose of student writing.

Stephanie is excited to continue working with collegewide partners to improve access to Faculty and Instructional Development resources on the East and Winter Park Campuses. With the addition of Zachary Hawk, campus manager, evening and weekend, the Center for Teaching/Learning Innovation on East Campus will now be able to keep its doors open longer, Monday through Friday and on Saturdays.
