A Message from Terri Graham, Interim President, West and Downtown Campuses
Valencia College’s Respiratory program student Basel Salameh remembers the day he made the decision to make respiratory therapy his career.
“I remember coming out of my anatomy class with my friend and he told me that there was an event going on in school,” he said.
Basel was planning on attending Valencia’s Nursing program at the moment, but when he came across the Respiratory program stand, he changed his mind when the students gave him valuable information about the program.
“The students were super helpful and they informed me about the program,” Basel shared. “At that moment, I knew that respiratory therapy was the career for me. It has been the best decision I’ve ever made during my educational years.”
Recently, Basel had the opportunity to manage the Respiratory program stand and provide information to other students.
“I was able to help students the way I was once helped when I was in their shoes,” he said. “The students were engaged in learning more about respiratory care and what the career pathway is all about. During these times respiratory therapists are essential health workers due to COVID-19. My mission is to provide information about the profession.”
