Students Visit Sustainability Expo
ShareAs part of their joint Endowed Chair project, Brian Macon, professor, mathematics, and Deb Hollister, professor, psychology, attended the 2017 Sustainability Expo at Hillsborough Community College with five students on Saturday, April 8, 2017.
To engage students in a crucial conversation about sustainability, Brian and Deb developed a fun and educational contest, coined the STEAM Challenge. The challenge provided an opportunity for students interested in a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) fields to mingle with like-minded students while they made a simple, fun and creative video that posed solutions related to a sustainability topic of their choice.
A group of five students were winners of the video submission competition: Emily Garcia, Alberto Gomez, Reinaldo Benitez, Purity Muritu and Guillermo Alvarez Santana.
At the conference, the students learned about tiny houses and sustainable living practices. Brian and Deb extend their thanks to the Valencia Foundation and the Endowed Chair program for supporting this project.
