Last year the Accounts Payable Department read Strength Finders 2.0 by Tom Rath and took the accompanying assessment to discover the top five strengths of each member on the team. I was so impressed with the book and the potential that it has to inform and transform our team that I encourage others at the college to consider this development opportunity for their team.
Strength Finders 2.0, which was developed by the Gallup Organization and lived on the Wall Street Journal, Business Week, and USA Today best seller lists, is based on the concept that individuals should focus on understanding and developing their talents.
The book focuses on your potential for growth as an individual and on how your strengths combined with others can help strengthen your team and improve your performance. Research shows that if you are allowed to invest energy in personal and professional development you will be more emotionally engaged in your job, be more positive and productive, and excel in the talent-driven society in which we live.
Seher and her team took away a new perspective on each other after reading the book and completing the assessment. Not only did they tap into their talents, but Seher now understands what makes her team feel empowered.
You can learn more about Seher’s perspective on developing her team by reading Providing Professional Development as a Best Practice.
Seher is a coordinator in the accounts payable department at the Downtown Center. With a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Public Administration, she brings a wealth of knowledge to the college. Seher joined Valencia in September of last year.
