A Message from Carrie Black, Director, Energy Conservation and Sustainability
I hope everyone is having a great summer and taking much deserved vacations. I’ll keep this month’s article brief, sharing some important on-campus resources and also what has caught our team’s attention if you are looking for things to check out for vacation reading.
On-Campus Recycling Programs
As employees return to prepare their workspaces for Phase 4 operations, and as we generally move toward coming back more on-campus, don’t forget about the great on-campus recycling programs that are available:
- Alkaline Battery and Plastic Writing Instrument Recycling Program
- What’s Recyclable at Valencia
- Printer Ink and Toner Recycling – For when you do have to print, when the toner or ink cartridge runs out, package it up, so it doesn’t leak, and place it in the outgoing courier mailbox. Courier Services will collect cartridges to be recycled.
Sustainability Reading
It’s officially summer, and here’s what we’re reading and checking out:
- Book: “How to Avoid a Climate Disaster” by Bill Gates (ebook available through Valencia Library)
- Article: “World Environment Day: What reasons do we have to stay hopeful about our planet’s future?“
- Clip: Ford electric F-150 Lightning announcement (Ford is emphasizing that not only can it transport, but it can provide home backup power.)
