Effective in fall 2021, the School of Nursing will implement curriculum changes to the Traditional Associate in Science in Nursing (ASN) program including a change in program options, such as a new part-time option for all Traditional programs (daytime and evening/weekend), admission requirements and the application process.
“I’m excited that the new curriculum will give the students a new way of learning clinical judgement/clinical decision making which is essential for optimal patient care, explained Interim Dean of Nursing Ruby Alvarez. “This change will enable the students to apply concepts from one situation to another and make connections between those concepts. The change will also help to prepare them for the new changes coming to the National Council Licensure Examination in 2023, which will focus more on clinical judgement.”
In preparation for these curriculum changes, the School of Nursing will not accept new applicants for the Traditional nursing (daytime and evening/weekend) program admission consideration for fall 2021 and spring 2022.
The School of Nursing is anticipating resuming admitting new students into the traditional ASN program for summer 2022.
Eligible Traditional students who applied prior to Friday, January 15, 2021, who are on the waitlist to be admitted to the ASN program(s) with the former requirements (as listed in the 2020-2021 or earlier catalogs) are being considered for fall 2021 and spring 2022 admission. These students are not impacted by the new admission requirements but will need to meet all program graduation requirements after acceptance.
For fall 2021 and spring 2022, the School of Nursing will accept new applicants for the Valencia College/UCF Concurrent Nursing program. Students applying for this program will be considered for admission per the requirements listed in the 2020-2021 or earlier catalogs. Students applying for spring 2022 will be considered for admission per the implemented curriculum changes listed in the 2021-2022 catalog.
