A message from Jennifer Robertson, Director, Study Abroad and Global Experiences

Valencia is the only community college in Florida to receive U.S. Department of Education funding for an Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language Grant (UISFL). The two-year award, totaling $180,741, was announced on Wednesday, October 8, 2014.

usdo-ed-270w“The grant will allow Valencia to broaden curriculum internationalization of courses collegewide and prepare students to live and work in an interdependent and multicultural world using the knowledge, skills and attitudes of a competent global citizen,” said Director of Study Abroad and Global Experiences (SAGE) Jennifer Robertson.

Further, the project will create the Valencia Global Distinction (VGD), a framework for assisting students to develop global competencies and recognition for their time and effort devoted to global learning. It will also bolster faculty expertise in international education through professional development by leveraging current internationalized curriculum and enhancing course and co-curricular offerings at the College to reach a broader base of students.

A new technical certificate program in international business and Portuguese for Heritage Speaker courses are also planned.
