Over the past several months, with the welcoming of Paul Rooney, assistant vice president for safety, security and risk management, several security enhancements have been initiated.
Campus security officers at Valencia will soon be sporting a fresh new look. Polo shirts with the Valencia campus security seal in lightweight fabric that wicks perspiration and embroidered with the officer’s name will be the new issue.
In addition to the new look, there’s also new gear: bikes, top of the line flashlights and digital cameras, all of which will eventually be supplemented with a limited canine presence.
Officers on bikes, according to Paul, serve a twofold purpose. They are readily identified as security, thereby creating a heightened security presence, and are often viewed as more approachable.
Also, our campuses can expect to see traffic flow alerts and improvements in signage to help with parking — i.e. notices of overflow and availability as well as improved video cameras.
