A Message from Falecia Williams, President, West and Downtown Campuses
My deepest gratitude goes to the Valencia Nursing Student Association (VNSA). This incredible and compassionate group of nursing students recently channeled their dedication and creativity into a fundraiser to support breast cancer awareness by selling pink ribbons that were displayed on West Campus.
Historically committed to fostering awareness about health disparities and raising funds to support crucial research, VNSA Fundraiser Coordinator Adrianna Sahebi says this effort is directly in line with the association’s mission to serve.
“As nurses, we have a responsibility to advocate and raise awareness in our community,” Adrianna explained. “The real inspiration comes from the strong survivors and the angels who have fought and, unfortunately, lost to breast cancer, as well as the people currently fighting. Many members of the Nursing staff have fought or are currently fighting their own personal battles against breast cancer including but not limited to Nursing Professor Ruby Alvarez, Implementation Coordinator Ozella Knox and Manager of Continuing Education and Clinical Compliance Carol Millenson. Additionally, it is reasonable to say most of us personally know somebody who is been directly affected. The goal of this fundraiser was truly to honor all the amazing people affected and to do what we can to help find a cure.”
Through this effort, the VNSA raised more than $1,200, which was donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Compassionate Hands and Hearts Breast Cancer Outreach.
Many members also participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Saturday, October 27, 2018.
