Join Valencia in Honoring Pulse Victims

Monday, June 12, 2017, marks one year since the Pulse nightclub shooting so tragically claimed 49 lives, including seven Valencia students. In remembrance of those we lost and those who survived, Valencia will host various remembrance ceremonies to remind us and the world that while our hearts may be broken, our pulse remains strong.

District Office

Date: Monday, June 12, 2017
Time: 8:30 a.m.

In remembrance of those we lost, the District Office will host a reflection that will feature a candle and tree planting ceremony — symbolizing our community’s strength and growth in the face of adversity. Throughout the month of June, the District Office will also collect non-perishable food items to benefit campus food pantries in an effort to give back to our community during this time of reflection. At this time of year when schools are closed for the summer, there is often a greater need for nutritious meals to be served at home.

School of Public Safety

Lake Nona Campus

Inspired by a Japanese proverb that regards birds as the mediators between heaven and Earth, the embodiment of the spirit and the manifestation of freedom, the Lake Nona Campus will display 1,000 cranes throughout the month of June in remembrance of the Pulse tragedy and with the hopes of fostering compassion for all, regardless of race, religion, gender, gender identification, sexual orientation or any disabilities.

Of the 1,000 paper cranes that will symbolically take flight above the balcony, 102 will feature bright colors, representing the victims of the tragedy.
