Roadmap for Reopening Phase 4 Design Principles

Thursday, June 17, 2021

As we get ready for our Roadmap for Reopening Phase 4 operations, which will begin on Sunday, August 1, 2021, you may be wondering how to answer your team members’ questions on how decisions have been made regarding our reopening plans.

Our plans for all of our reopening stages, including for Phase 4, have been based on two priorities — the health and safety of our employees and students and ensuring the continuity of student learning — and have been created with feedback from employees and students, using the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as the guidance of our planning partner, Orlando Health. Throughout the pandemic, our approach to our Roadmap for Reopening plans has been learning-centered and science-based.

A team composed primarily of faculty and deans developed design principles that include guidance that the Fall 2021 term course schedule should: be built with enough capacity and flexibility not to constrain access to higher education; include enough options to allow students to make substantial progress toward their intended academic goals; generally include as many face-to-face and mixed-mode sections as possible without constraining overall capacity, while considering historical student demand and student outcomes by modality; and current and changing student modality preferences.

To help prepare you and your employees for the return to campus, you’re invited to a special Optum Employee Assistance Program (EAP) supervisor session on “Managing Employees’ Fear and Anxiety.” Additionally, all employees are invited to attend the Optum EAP session, “Preparing You and Your Family to Return to Work.” Read about the sessions here.
