A Message from Falecia Williams, President, West and Downtown Campuses
The Engineering, Computer Programming, and Technology division at West Campus has met the challenge of remote laboratory access by providing an online pathway to connect students and instructors with on-campus laboratory resources via Microsoft Teams.
Each academic discipline has its own channel of communication and assistance and holds different hours. Disciplines and labs include:
- CPA/IT Virtual Lab
Computer Programming and Analysis (CP&A)
Computer Information Technology (CIT)
- ECPT Virtual Lab
Bachelor in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology (BECET)
Computer-Aided Drafting and Design Technology (CAD&DT)
Electronics Engineering Technology (EET)
Construction and Civil Engineering Technology (C&CET)
Engineering Associate of Arts pre-major (ENG)
- NET Virtual Lab
Network Engineering Technology (NET)
Cybersecurity
Cyber Forensics
Cloud Infrastructure Security
The labs are one of the College’s first completely functional, online, virtual open lab environments and were set up within 24 hours, serving dozens of students and instructors.
Already, they have proven highly popular with students, who have extended access to tutors and learning resources. Tutors provide help during lab hours instantaneously at the click of a button.
Luis, a network engineering technology student, said the NET OpenLab “saves the day,” and referred to online lab tutors as “superheroes,” adding that the resource “eased the stress of my online experience,” and that he recommended the services continue after the pandemic as an added value for any online curriculum.
