Virtual Reality Coming to Valencia Classrooms
ShareA Message from Stacey Johnson, President, East and Winter Park Campuses
Virtual reality is becoming a reality for Valencia’s classrooms. Professor of English for Academic Purposes James May has used resources from the Valencia Foundation and the Dr. P. Phillips Foundation Chair in Free Enterprise to help teachers with “Connecting the World to Valencia and Valencia to the World – A Virtual Reality.”
This year, as part of his endowed chair work, James had the opportunity to learn about amazing teaching applications for virtual reality and also purchase some classroom kits so that Valencia faculty could try out virtual reality in the classroom.
Starter applications, such as Veer.TV, Google Cardboard, Google Expeditions and Discovery VR, can be incorporated to bring curriculum to life in the classroom. For additional information on these applications, click here.
Virtual reality classroom kits are available at all of the Campus’ Center for Teaching/Learning Innovation (CTLI) with the exception of Poinciana Campus. For the East Campus kit, visit East Campus CTLI, located in Building 4, Room 133. Each kit includes 25 virtual reality headsets and information and ideas on how to use them in the classroom.
