A Message from Paul Rooney, Assistant Vice President
Please join me in welcoming Andy Sorrow, our new managing director, college grounds, who will develop and oversee all campus grounds, landscaping and horticultural operations.
A native Floridian, Andy has lived or worked in virtually every major metropolitan area in Florida and has a wide range of experience — with prior roles working at golf courses, a West Palm Beach plant nursery, commercial landscape companies and landscape pest control organizations. Coupled with a bachelor’s degree in turfgrass management, these experiences ultimately led Andy to become a grounds manager for Jacksonville University, the Town of Palm Beach, Tampa International Airport and, most recently, Valencia College.
“Whether it is seeking relief from the summer sun under an oak tree for a moment or the pleasant surprise of a blooming fragrance new to someone, the campus grounds are an integral part of the College environment that extend out before anyone enters a building,” Andy said. “With multiple campuses and a dispersed and diverse staff, I am so grateful that I have a number of experienced people who can advise me and help me navigate some of the horticultural nuances that each location has independent from each other. I am excited to lead our staff and accomplish our goals that we’ll develop over the years ahead.”
In his free time, Andy enjoys spending time with his wife, Rachel, of 10 years, and their two boys, Jackson and Caleb — who recently started school at the same elementary school for the first time. Andy and his boys enjoy swimming in the various springs throughout the Central and North Florida regions and try to visit several new ones each year.
“It always seems as though each spring is colder than the last one visited, even though they are actually the same temperature,” Andy joked.
You can welcome Andy to the College in the comments below.
