Ben Lion joined the Valencia team as West Campus dean of students on Monday, April 25, 2016. His 11 years of higher education experience span both private and public institutions, focused on a student-centered approach to empowering students to take ownership of their education and experience.
Ben’s professional career began in alumni relations at Azusa Pacific University, in Azusa, California, where he focused on undergraduate student engagement as “alumni in residence” to develop and strengthen institutional affinities. In 2010, he took a position at Belmont University, in Nashville, Tennessee, as the director of new student and parent programs, overseeing the new student experience and parent engagement during a significant period of enrollment growth. Most recently, he held a position at Florida State College at Jacksonville, facilitating enrollment, advising, financial aid and student success processes.
He holds a Masters of Education in College Student Affairs from Azusa Pacific University and a Doctorate of Higher Education Administration from The University of Alabama.
As the dean of students, he approaches his work with servant-leadership by collaborating with campus partners, faculty, staff and students to continually evaluate and enhance the student experience.
“I’m excited to serve Valencia students and the community in my new role as we prepare the next generation of change agents who will impact our local, regional and global communities,” Ben shared.
Ben and his wife Lori have two daughters, ages 5 and 8 months, and one son, age 4.
