A Message from Jose Fernandez, Assistant Vice President, Facilities Planning and Real Estate Development
Welcome Carrie-Lynn Black, director of energy conservation and sustainability, who joined Valencia on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. In this role, Carrie-Lynn will lead efforts to promote energy conservation throughout campus operations and enhance waste minimization and recycling efforts.
Prior to joining Valencia, Carrie-Lynn led sustainability efforts at Jacksonville University where she launched numerous sustainability initiatives, including redesigning and more than tripling the capacity of their recycling program, incorporating lighting retrofits to improve energy efficiency and safety, and increasing campus composting. Additionally, she previously worked with an environmental nonprofit, where she started a sustainable workplace designation program, educating and assisting businesses on ways to incorporate more environmentally sustainable actions into their business practices.
Carrie-Lynn has a Master of Science in environmental planning and management from Johns Hopkins University and was a long-time volunteer and board member of the U.S. Green Building Council North Florida Region. She enjoys spending time with her husband, George, and their young daughter, Audrey. Carrie-Lynn also enjoys hiking, visiting farmers markets and traveling.
