Welcome Cynthia Santiago, who joined Valencia on Monday, May 16, 2016, as director, compliance and audit. In this role, Cynthia is responsible for the planning and execution of financial, operational, strategic and compliance audits and assessing compliance with the College’s policies and procedures. She reports directly to the District Board of Trustees.
During her 20-year career, she has served in a variety of roles in audit, risk management, finance and accounting, spanning various industries including financial services, manufacturing and sales. Most recently, Cynthia served as the audit manager at Partners Federal Credit Union, Disney’s sponsored credit union.
She holds two certifications from the Institute of Internal Auditors: Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) and Internal Audit Practitioner (IAP).
Cynthia earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in economics and Latin American and Caribbean area studies and a Master’s of Business Administration degree in finance, both from Binghamton University, New York. Cynthia also holds a Master’s of Banking degree from Mercy College, New York.
Cynthia is a strong advocate of higher education accessibility and achievement for all students. She served on Binghamton University’s Alumni Association’s Board of Directors for 13 years, contributing as a member of the finance committee, long-range planning committee and executive board. She continues her advocacy by hosting college fairs, attending alumni events and always encouraging students to pursue higher education.
