We’re Keeping Mr. Pin Man: Valencia Wins 2014 RecycleMania
ShareFor the third year in a row, Valencia has won the RecyleMania “waste minimization” category, an eight-week campaign where college and university recycling programs’ “RecyleManiacs” promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities.
By going paperless, switching to electronic media and adding centralized waste collection bins, the College inched out against two competitors.
Valencia’s cutback feat, measured in “Cumulative GHG (greenhouse gas) Reductions,” was 84 metric tons of CO2, which is the equivalent of 16 cars off the road and equal to the energy consumption of seven households.
Winning schools receive an award made out of recyclable materials — Mr. Pin Man — and win the right to host their category’s special traveling trophy for the coming year. This means our beloved Mr. Pin man is here to stay. Well, at least for another year.
Be sure to continue using the recycling receptacles on your campus, and read the Juice for notices on the next RecycleMania competitions.
