What is Covered Under the Employee Development Funds Program?

As a Valencia College employee, we have access to a variety of Total Rewards. One of the rewards is Employee Development Funds (EDF), which grants full-time employees who have been employed at the College a continuous six months or more $1,100 per fiscal year to use toward professional development. This development can range from attending conferences and workshops to taking classes at Valencia College.

While EDF can cover expenses such as conference registration and class tuition, there are costs that EDF cannot cover. These expenses include, but are not limited to, books, application fees, lab fees and the newly approved distance learning fee, which was approved during the District Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, June 26, 2019. It is the employee’s responsibility to cover these costs. Please note that if you take a class at Valencia College and the associated fees are not paid by the payment deadline, you may be dropped from the class.

With supervisor approval, full-time employees who have been employed at the College in a full-time position for a minimum of six continuous months are eligible for:

  • Tuition up to 18 credit hours per fiscal year at Valencia, if degree seeking or seeking a technical certificate; OR
  • Up to $1,100 dollars per fiscal year for eligible professional development, such as conferences, workshops, seminars and webinars; tuition reimbursement from another United States regionally accredited higher education institution; or a combination of professional development and Valencia non-degree seeking courses.

Dependent Tuition

Full-time employees who have been employed at the College in a full-time position for a minimum of six continuous months may have eligible dependents register for up to a maximum of six credit hours per term toward credit and non-credit courses at Valencia. An eligible dependent is a non-Valencia employee who is a spouse, domestic partner or child of a Valencia College employee. Please note: a child of two eligible Valencia College employees may take a maximum of 12 credit hours per term.

The two forms (Request for EDF and Request for Valencia College Course Tuition) are located in ATLAS under Valencia Forms. Please note: you should route all forms, including those for Valencia classes and Continuing Education, to your ODHR Regional Solution Center for approval prior to any appropriate deadline.
