What We Are Reading: Healing the Heart of Democracy

Book: Healing the Heart of Democracy: The Courage to Create a Politics Worthy of the Human Spirit
Author: Parker J. Palmer

Reviewer: Rachel Allen, director, Peace and Justice Institute

In this brief video, Rachel Allen, director, Peace and Justice Institute, tells us about the book she is currently reading: “Healing the Heart of Democracy: The Courage to Create a Politics Worthy of the Human Spirit” by Parker J. Palmer.

In the book, Palmer looks with realism and hope at how to deal with our political tensions for the sake of the common good.

This book was read by all who participated in this year’s Peace and Justice Practitioner Program, and it comes as a reminder that we should come together in what might appear to be increasingly fractured times.

Rachel’s stirring review of Palmer’s work also links in to the Peace and Justice Institute’s Principles of How We Treat Each Other — reminding us to respect one another and build community. Enjoy!
