Valencia College student Samantha Rodriguez — a 21-year old who is raising her five siblings after her parents’ death — was interviewed by Whoopi Goldberg on “The View” in December 2019.
After her parents died from cancer, Samantha chose to keep her family together and raise her siblings.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office began championing their cause in 2018 to help with Christmas, and donors assisted with getting Samantha a car and collecting funds to support the family. Additionally, the Valencia Foundation awarded Samantha a $1,000 scholarship for the 2019-20 school year.
Her extraordinary efforts have been noticed by national news outlets. She was featured in People magazine in July 2019, and in December 2019, Samantha and her younger brothers and sisters were interviewed by Whoopi Goldberg on “The View.”
During the feature, Toyota presented Samantha a $15,000 scholarship to continue her studies at the University of Central Florida and a 2020 Toyota Sienna filled with Disney toys. Check out the piece on “The View” below. Be sure to watch for the West Campus scene at 3:27.
