A Message from Wendy Givoglu, Interim President, East and Winter Park Campuses
Anyone who has driven down Morse Boulevard in Winter Park recently has seen the beautiful new Winter Park Library and Events Center, designed by world-famous architect Sir David Adjaye. It’s an impressive structure, and it provides new opportunities for the surrounding community with new classrooms, technology and a beautiful theater space.
Given the library’s proximity to the Winter Park Campus and the significant overlap in the populations served, the Winter Park Campus Library was interested in forming a stronger relationship with the Winter Park Campus to better serve students and the community at large. As a first step in this partnership, Emerging Technology Librarian Adam Johnson offered a series of special topics classes for local creatives and entrepreneurs.
In January 2022, Adam presented the “Introduction to Using Canva for Social Media” and, in February 2022, the “How to License Your Work with Creative Commons” class. Although these topics are geared toward professionals in a variety of fields, they leverage many of the same instructional tools that Adam uses with faculty and students daily.
These classes are expected to continue well into the future with more options being planned for late spring. The library is also exploring other avenues to grow the partnership with the Winter Park Campus, so the surrounding community can gain a deeper experience of the wealth of academic opportunities Valencia College offers.
Please contact Adam at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions regarding upcoming classes.
