Education for sustainability has been growing organically at Valencia through the good work of our faculty, deans and staff. The volume of effort and commitment at the grass-roots level calls for a new direction and renewed commitment to Valencia’s sustainability efforts. To this end, a new position of Director of Education for Sustainability has been created, and we are pleased to announce that Resham Shirsat, formerly the Director of Sustainability, has accepted the position.
In this new role, Resham will transition from the Division of Business Operations and Finance to the Office of Curriculum and Assessment within the Division of Academic Affairs and Planning. She will work with faculty, staff and students on the integration of sustainability concepts into curricular and co-curricular efforts.
Our sustainability operations team, currently staffed with sustainability and energy experts, will continue to drive strong results in areas such as energy use, facility maximization, transportation ease and waste reduction. In the near future, a position in the facilities area that will help us maximize our resources and make wise investments in our facilities projects will be posted.
Valencia’s commitment to creating a better community through sustainable practices is strong. We are gratified by the extent of the efforts in the classroom, student development workshops, summer camps, grants, service learning and more that help to educate our students for careers in the 21st century.
If you have any questions or comments about the new direction of sustainability, please don’t hesitate to reach out to either of us directly via email or phone. Join us in welcoming Resham in her new role.
