Accelerated Skills Training Program Featured in Workforce Playbook

The Aspen Institute’s College Excellence Program featured Valencia College’s Accelerated Skills Training program in “The Workforce Playbook: A Community College Guide to Delivering Excellent Career and Technical Education.”

The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program traveled the country visiting top-performing community colleges — including a visit to Valencia in March 2018 — to learn what the best schools do to build effective workforce programs.

“The Workforce Playbook” presents this research and provides guidance on how excellent community colleges have delivered career technical education, so that students gain the skills they need to succeed in the next stage of their lives. This tool is designed to help community colleges bridge the opportunity gap and is a practical guide with the goal of improving community colleges’ ability to deliver talent for communities and enable social mobility for students.

The playbook is based on interviews with leaders and practitioners from 30 community colleges, as well as in-depth qualitative investigations of six colleges that deliver exceptional labor market outcomes for students, including Valencia College; Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, South Dakota; Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York; North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota; Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay, Wisconsin; and San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas.
