A member of the Global Citizen Program team, which is an interdisciplinary team that helped internationalize the Honors Jeffersonian Track of the Valencia Honors College, Credit Programs Manager Susan Dunn never expected her work would lead to award recognition. So, when her team was nominated for the Innovation of the Year Awards, she was equal parts honored and surprised.
“It is nice to know that your efforts are being recognized by your superiors, and that they are moved to the point that they feel you deserve such a nice award,” Susan said. “Our honors program is unique, and it was wonderful to see my co-recipients and I lauded for our work on a program that is close to our hearts.”
The Innovation of the Year Award, given by The League for Innovation in the Community College (The League), is designed to recognize faculty, staff and administrators at colleges who have created and implemented innovative programs, practices, partnerships, policies and activities that improve the institution’s ability to serve students and the community.
Winners receive an honorary Innovation of the Year certificate from The League and have the opportunity to attend the annual Innovations Conference.
Susan and her team attended the 2016 Innovations Conference in Chicago.
“I did enjoy the opportunity to attend the conference,” said Susan. “It gave me a chance to get to know some of my colleagues better as well, since several of us went to the conference. The conference was well organized and sessions were diverse. I left several sessions feeling reinvigorated about the work I do and excited for future possibilities.”
Having enjoyed her experience, Susan encourages faculty, staff and administrators alike to consider applying or nominating a colleague for the 2017 Innovation of the Year Awards.
“It is an honor and delight to be recognized for one’s good work,” she explained. “If you have a colleague that is doing excellent and innovative work, consider nominating them for the Innovation of the Year award.”
