Professor of Humanities George Brooks Elected President of AVISTA

A Message from Stacey Johnson, President, East and Winter Park Campuses

Congratulations to Professor of Humanities George Brooks on being elected President of the Association Villard de Honnecourt for the Interdisciplinary Study of Medieval Technology, Science and Art (AVISTA), a scholarly medieval art and technology organization. Through AVISTA, scholars publish a book series on topics related to research themes concerning the medieval period and art.

The name of the group was derived from Villard de Honnecourt, the author of a 13th century manuscript, containing a series of loose drawings, which were later bound together for the instruction of young cathedral builders. This sketchbook contained plans, elevations and details, often of identifiable buildings like the cathedrals at Chartres, Reims and Laon. Notably, the organization’s logo is a perpetual motion wheel that Villard, the organization’s founder drew.

Congratulate George in the comments below.
