Career Program Advisors Boost Students’ Career Connections
ShareA Message from Falecia Williams, President, West and Downtown Campuses
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Boosting Your Career Connections events on Monday, October 23, Tuesday, October 24 and Wednesday, October 25, 2017.
The events, organized by Valencia career program advisors, facilitated panelist discussions that emphasized the importance of volunteerism, positive personal and professional branding, engagement with collegiate activities and building work experience. The 12 panelists included representatives from various career paths, ranging from hospitality and culinary, non-profit and business and also plant sciences and criminal justice (all programs supported by the host advisors).
Thanks to the Valencia Foundation, Valencia alumni and Student Development for partnering with Student Services and Advising, and to Ed Holmes, campus director, advising, for his support. The event also featured wisdom from the Internship and Workforce Services department, as well as the West Campus Career Center.
“Based on feedback from the students, we are confident that students gained a better understanding of their degree and how it relates to a career, the services and value of completing an internship, the value of networking with the panelists and possibly a few degree changes,” explained Coordinator, Career Program Advisor Rita Maldonado. “Events like these also connect the career program advisor role to the larger goals of Valencia College of connection and people.”
Students can look forward to a subsequent event series, which may be offered through live-streaming, in the spring term set for Monday, February 20 and Tuesday, February 22, 2018. More details to come.
