A Message from Wendy Givoglu, Interim President, East and Winter Park Campuses
In an effort to support students on their educational journey at Valencia, the East Campus leadership team worked collaboratively to open the first-ever, Academic One Stop Center, on Monday, August 23, 2021. Under the leadership of Regional Dean of Academic Affairs Michelle Foster, The Academic One Stop (AOS) Center provides students with discipline-specific information, registration support, as well as other academic division questions and issues. Located in Building 4, Room 100B, the center is staffed by rotating academic discipline administrative assistants and work study students and will rely on the support and collaboration of remote academic discipline divisional teams. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. During the first week of school, more than 100 students received academic assistance from the AOS Center.
The AOS Center is considered a pilot program during the Fall 2021 semester, with the goal to improve student on-campus navigation and eliminate the need for students to travel to multiple divisions for assistance. Students will be referred to the AOS through the help desk, the answer center and our advising/counseling staff.
Michelle shared, “This innovative partnership between academic and student affairs will support our face-to-face students with “just-in-time” service and offer a social and inviting aspect for our East Campus students. We’re very excited to offer this AOS and eliminate the churning of students from division office to division office.”
Students who have visited the center in the first week have been very excited about this support center. One student exclaimed, “This is awesome – I only had to go to one place to get reregistered into an Environmental Science and Humanities – Mythology Course.”
Stay tuned…more to come on the Academic One Stop.
