East Campus Technology Club Student Lands High Tech Job

A Message from Stacey Johnson, President, East and Winter Park Campuses

Preparing students for a career and the world-of-work is exactly what Professor of Computer Programming and Analysis Jerry Hensel does every day. Recently, Jerry connected Mike Zeman — a current Valencia College student and vice president of the Technology Club — to a job as an information technology technical support professional.

Mike spent eight years in the Air Force, where he was an air battle manager, and seven years in the Army, where he worked as a chemical weapons defense officer. After years in the military, Mike decided to go back to school to get a degree in information technology. He felt that this field, which has grown exponentially over the last decade, would provide endless opportunities. Because of Valencia College’s reputation and quality education, Mike decided to apply and attend classes on East Campus.

“I chose Valencia because of its small class sizes and varied schedule,” Mike said. “I also found the professors and staff to be great at working with my busy schedule. Ultimately, the ability to network with others through my involvement in the Valencia Technology Club has proved to be invaluable in getting this job.”

Mike is now working at INAP Incorporated, a global provider of full-spectrum data and cloud solutions as a network operations center support engineer tier I. A huge thanks to Jerry for connecting Mike to this opportunity.
