Faculty Ombuds Update — January 2019
ShareIn the fall 2018 semester, Organizational Development and Human Resources introduced a new faculty dispute resolution resource — a faculty ombuds representative — and welcomed your 2018-2019 representative, Anna Saintil, professor, student life skills. Anna is trained to provide support, guidance and feedback to employees who are having difficulty resolving conflicts. For more information on the faculty ombuds role, click here, and read Anna’s update below.
A Message from Anna Saintil, Professor, Student Life Skills, and Faculty Ombuds Representative
Your faculty ombuds representative is at your service.
The fall semester marked my inaugural term in the faculty ombuds representative position — a position that serves as an advocate for the dispute resolution process. I play an integral role in ensuring faculty have access to the tools, processes and policies provided by the College to assist in managing disputes. For more information about dispute resolution at Valencia College, please review the Dispute Resolution Policy.
Over the past few months, I have visited each campus’ faculty senate to spread the word about the faculty ombuds representative’s role and duties. In doing so, I toured Valencia’s diverse and unique campuses and locations. These visits provided me an invaluable opportunity to learn more about the unique cultures and faculty that comprise Valencia’s six, soon to be seven, campuses. No two visits were the same!
The same could be said of dispute resolution, as a one-size-fits-all solution is not always viable. Therefore, I want to make myself available to hear from you directly and share more about the dispute resolution policy and process, as well as how my role can support you in familiarizing yourself with the various tools and resources available to you. These conversations will provide a venue for you to ask questions, share your insights and help me to develop a framework for how to best address your individual and collective needs.
I will hold Faculty Ombuds Representative Meet-and-Greet Sessions on each campus during the spring 2019 semester. Come visit and say hello, so that I can get to know you and you can get to know me. You may not need anything now, but putting a name with a face may help in the future in the event that something comes up. I am here to help in whatever way that I can. I hope that we can meet and talk more when I visit a campus near you later this term. I will be available for drop-in visits at the dates and locations listed below.
