As the coordinator of onboarding, Nichole McPherson is tasked with the essential role of introducing new employees to the Valencia culture and establishing a foundation for their future success at the college.
“I feel there is a calling in my life to serve others and provide programs and services that not only help others grow but also recognize and celebrate their accomplishments,” Nichole shared. It was this calling that led her to pursue a career at Valencia – an institution with a reputation for service and collaboration.
She began her Valencia journey in 2007 as the coordinator of college and foundation relations, planning and executing events such as employee recognition ceremonies, Vision and Voices, and A Taste for Learning silent auction.
In that role, Nichole worked closely with faculty and staff, while connecting Valencia to the Central Florida community. She refers to her work with A Taste for Learning as being among her top career highlights at Valencia, where she helped raise over $50,000 for student scholarships in the silent auction.
In 2011, the office for organizational communication and development was reorganized with an expanded focus to include employment and onboarding. With a natural talent for relationship building, Nichole was an ideal fit for the coordinator of onboarding – a position that is integral to engaging employees early in the recruitment and hiring process.
“Nichole has really added inspiration to our way of thinking about new employees and how to onboard them to the college,” said Jennifer Page, director of employment and onboarding. “She has been instrumental in bringing people together to change how we think about the onboarding process. Nichole is engaged and understands what to do to help Valencia succeed and keep growing as an institution.”
Since beginning in this position, she has led the development and implementation of a comprehensive, college-wide onboarding process, called Valencia Forward, which was deployed at the beginning of this year.
Nichole’s immediate career goals are to continue working collaboratively with the employment and onboarding team to enhance the recruitment, selection and hiring experience for hiring managers, hiring committees and applicants.
Nichole has a bachelor’s degree in organizational communication and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Central Florida. Recently, she obtained a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification from the Society for Human Resources Management.
Prior to joining Valencia, Nichole worked for the American Cancer Society where she partnered with Central Florida business leaders and hundreds of volunteers to raise funds for cancer research and patient services.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and volunteering in the community. Nichole is a Take Stock in Children mentor and has served as the president of Frontier Civitan, an all-women’s club that focuses on community service, leadership, and fellowship.
