Governance: Thank You Neal; Hello Al
ShareAfter a fun year with our own DJ MLA, the one and only fiddlin’, YMCAin‘ Pennsylvania Neal — that’s Neal Phillips, our 2016 – 2017 Collegewide Faculty Association president — we pass the Faculty Association president baton to the rogue rockin’ Al Groccia, professor, mathematics, on the Osceola Campus.
Al, a Valencia graduate, who started working at the College in 2001, will now lead the association from July 2017 – July 2018. The Faculty Association serves as the official voice of faculty in matters of college governance, faculty rights, privileges, responsibilities, curriculum and teaching/learning matters. Al was elected to this position by you, his peers, and is on full reassignment from the classroom during his tenure, to allow him to focus on college governance without the added pressure of teaching. It’s a big job.
If you know Neal and Al, you also know that this baton passing would be anything but boring. They created a video, “Between Two Random Plants” (you’ll just have to watch to get the title) to officially introduce Al and his initiatives for the coming year. Our 2015 – 2016 faculty association president, Suzette Dohany, professor, speech, even makes an appearance. Check it out below.
If you are interested in learning more about the Faculty Association, Al invites you to attend the monthly meetings, which rotate between campuses and are held in the afternoon on the second Thursday of each month. Also, don’t miss Al’s monthly Faculty Association updates in the Faculty Insight, your faculty newsletter.
For more information on the Faculty Association, click here. You may also contact Al at agroccia@valenciacollege.edu or 407-299-5000, extension 4182.
Please give a big thank you to Neal for his work this year and a good luck to Al in the comments below.
The Valencia Collegewide Faculty Association exists to advise the president of the College on matters of faculty-related interest and faculty welfare, promote communication and mutual understanding within the faculty and between the faculty and other groups and provide a collaborative means of formulating questions, articulating problems and contributing solutions.

Alert all commands, our cool as a dead star Faculty Association President, Neal, has journeyed on (that is as far as I could go on the Fandom page!). Thank you for your leadership, Neal. And, if A is a function from S to N, and hum… what I mean is, welcome, Al!
