John Niss and Kevin Mulholland to Serve on State General Education Committee

On Friday, September 21, the State General Education (Gen Ed) Steering Committee met to select faculty to serve on discipline work teams. A total of 12 faculty members (six from the Florida College System (FCS) and six from the Southern University System) were selected per Gen Ed discipline. The state team also selected one alternate for each discipline.

John Niss (Winter Park Campus) and Kevin Mulholland (Osceola Campus) will represent the FCS for math and humanities respectively. A Gen Ed steering committee representative and alternate will serve as the college representative. Selection criteria for the FCS faculty are noted below.

“We are very fortunate to have two faculty selected to serve on teams,” said Karen Borglum, assistant vice president of curriculum and articulation. “Most institutions only have one representative.”

The goal of the faculty discipline work teams is to have the initial recommendations for the five core course options under each Gen Ed discipline by December, with faculty and institutional review  in January 2013.

Gen Ed Steering Committee Criteria

  1. Experience in Gen Ed committee work or institution work.
  2. At least three years of full-time teaching experience.
  3. Broad range of institutions represented.
  4. Nominated by peers.
  5. Broad range of disciplines represented.

Additional updates and information can also be found at the Curriculum Committee website.
