Making a Difference in Our Community: Students Volunteer Throughout Central Florida

As part of The Leadership Academy, a leadership program for Valencia students, approximately 100 of our students participated in a community service project on Friday, May 5, 2017.

The academy, part of the Student Development Student Leadership Series, empowers students to build key professional skills, explore their leadership style and engage in meaningful community projects.

This year, students volunteered with the following organizations: United Against Poverty, Clean the World, Grand Avenue Elementary School and Lake Nona Campus. Whether they were assisting the Grounds team in beautifying the Lake Nona Campus or helping sort supplies, each of the students were engaged in service opportunities that helped them see the value in civic engagement and what it means to be a servant leader.

Throughout Valencia’s 50th anniversary year, to celebrate the College’s service to our community, we will feature stories of Valencia’s community impact and the volunteer efforts of our colleagues. Whether you volunteer as a board member of a foundation or you serve meals to the homeless, we want to hear about it because every act of kindness is worth celebrating. To submit a Valencia volunteer story, simply email the_grove@valenciacollege.edu the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your photo (preferably of you volunteering)
  • Where you volunteer and a description of the organization
  • How long you have volunteered with that organization
  • Why you choose to volunteer with that organization
  • What you enjoy most about volunteering with that organization
