Meet Shara Lee, Manager of CTLI and Assistant Director for Faculty and Instructional Development at the Winter Park Campus

shara-lee-270wPlease welcome Dr. Shara Lee to the College in her role as assistant director for faculty and instructional development, which includes managing the Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation at the Winter Park Campus.

Shara comes to Valencia from the University of Central Florida (UCF), where she was a faculty member in the Office of Experiential Learning for five years. During that same time, she served as an adjunct instructor in the Rosen College of Hospitality Management at UCF.

Shara joined UCF with 10 years of hospitality industry experience from the Walt Disney World Resort as an industry instructor and guest services manager. Her vast experience there includes being a facilitator for Disney’s Traditions Orientation (a historical and cultural immersion experience for new employees) and the Youth Education Series (YES). The YES programs teach K-12 students from across the globe about physics and American history via Disney attractions, and it is the program that ignited Shara’s passion for experiential education.

Earlier this month Shara received the Outstanding Experiential Education Research Award for 2013, which is awarded by the National Society for Experiential Education (NSEE).

Dr. Lee’s philosophy is “do it well no matter the size of the task,” and Valencia’s learning leadership looks forward to her input with shaping the professional development of our educators as they continue their commitment to Valencia’s essential competencies.

Shara holds a bachelor’s degree in interpersonal and organizational communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MBA from Stetson University and a doctorate in education from UCF — she is also a talented violinist and has an interest in exploring education through music.
