Paul Rooney Joins Valencia College as AVP for Safety, Security and Risk Management

We are pleased to announce that Paul Rooney, current City of Orlando police chief, has agreed to serve the College as assistant vice president for safety, security and risk management, the position currently held by Tom Lopez, who will retire at the end of the month.

Paul, who will join Valencia on Monday, February 24, 2014, is a 27-year veteran of the Orlando Police Department and brings a wealth of law enforcement experience including school safety and security, emergency management planning and homeland security.

He holds a multitude of professional certifications and recently oversaw a project that completed an assessment of the vulnerability of all Orange County School facilities located in the City of Orlando.

Paul holds a master’s degree in public administration from Troy State University, a bachelor’s degree in criminology from the University of South Florida and is a graduate of both the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy and the National Executive Institute in Quantico, Virginia.
