Peace and Education on Valencia Night at the Islamic Society of Central Florida
ShareWith the aim of bringing people of different religious and cultural backgrounds together to debunk myths about Islam, the Peace and Justice Initiative, the office of diversity and inclusion, and the Islamic Society of Central Florida (ISCF) collaborated to host Valencia Night at the ISCF!
Over 300 Valencia students, faculty, and staff gathered at ISCF on Friday, October 12, for an evening of peace and education. Attendees had the opportunity to take a tour of the mosque, view a presentation about the core tenants of Islam versus what you may see in the media, and enjoy a delicious international feast.
Questions and dialogue were a welcomed part of the event, and some participants left saying that they had a new found understanding of Islam.
“The intent of the program was not to change people’s belief systems,” explained Rachel Luce-Hitt, coordinator of diversity and inclusion. “The point of the event was to expose people to differences in perspectives and harness the mutual respect that is essential in our journey towards peace, diversity, and inclusion.”

This was a wonderful way to expand viewpoints. I had never been able to attend a mosque, it was very educational and fun.
