In the fall of 2016, the District Board of Trustees approved a new one-time monetary award and recognition for all full-time, non-instructional employees who earn advanced degrees from a regionally accredited institution.
This one time-lump sum payment is for a non-instructional employee who has been employed at the College in a full-time position for a minimum of six months and who earned a degree from a regionally accredited institution after November 2016, provided the academic degree was not a required qualification of the employee’s current position. (Note: The employee will be compensated for only one award per first academic degree earned.)
If you or one of the employees under your supervision is eligible for this award, the submission process is as follows:
1. Complete the Full-Time Staff Recognition for Educational Advancement Form within three months of graduation.
2. Submit official, sealed transcripts to Employee Development and Inclusion for evaluation and approval: Mail Code: DO-21 or email@example.com.
3. Once approved, Payroll Services will process payment in the upcoming payroll cycle. (Note: The lump sum award is considered taxable income, and it is not attributable toward retirement.)
As academic achievement is always an accomplishment to celebrate, with the employee’s permission, Valencia will also celebrate this achievement by recognizing the recipient in an upcoming issue of The Juice, Valencia’s weekly employee newsletter.
