Valencia College is committed to providing equal opportunity for employment and educational opportunities to all applicants (for employment) and employees without regard to any temporary or long-term disability protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act. In creating a more inclusive environment, the District Board of Trustees recently approved College Policy 6Hx28: 02-03 Workplace Accommodations for Applicants and Employees.
In order to provide an inclusive and accessible environment for all employees, the College works with employees who request reasonable workplace accommodations because of a disability.
As a supervisor, how do you best balance department needs/obligations and effectively support those employees who may need other available options in order to fulfill their essential job functions? Organizational Development and Human Resources (ODHR) is pleased to serve as your consultant. If you receive a request from an employee for an adjustment to job duties or believe that accommodations may be necessary to support your employee, please contact ODHR Access Services for assistance at 407-299-5000, extension 3801 or firstname.lastname@example.org. You can collaboratively discuss the initial request or observation(s) with your ODHR consultant and be provided guidance on appropriate next steps.
Eligible applicants and employees can readily request and receive reasonable accommodations to assist them in competing for job vacancies, performing the essential functions of a position, gaining access to the workplace and/or accessing employment benefits in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. The College is committed to evaluating these requests as appropriate for reasonable accommodations providing that the request does not create an undue hardship or pose a direct threat to the health or safety of the requestor or others in the workplace.
If a reasonable accommodation is requested due to a disability, an applicant or employee will be required to provide supporting documentation relating to the request and participate in the interactive process, which is a collaborative effort between the individual requesting an accommodation due to a disability, the hiring manager or supervisor, and an ODHR representative. Each accommodation request and documentation will be evaluated on an individual basis with potential accommodation solutions identified.
Additionally, as the nature of the hiring process may be different than the actual job duties required if the applicant is hired, applicants provided an accommodation during the recruitment, selection and/or hiring process who are subsequently hired by the College, may be subject to a separate interactive process as a new employee.
Please refer to the College Policy 6Hx28: 02-02 Workplace Accommodations for Applicants and Employees and the following frequently asked questions for more specific information on workplace accommodations.
