Preparing for Open Enrollment? Consider All of Your Options, Including a Health Savings Account

A Message from Tom Keller, Director, Benefits

Many of us have had traditional health insurance plans for most of our lives, and we’re accustomed to the comfort of the predetermined co-pays and relatively low deductibles that come with traditional plans. But, as the saying goes, just because that’s the way it’s always been done doesn’t make it right.

So while traditional health insurance plans, like Valencia’s Choice Bronze, Choice Plus Silver and Choice Plus Gold plans, are the best option for some, others may want to consider exploring the Choice Plus HSA Silver plan, which offers a health savings account — best described as a tax-free bank account for qualified medical expenses.

Dan Suarez, coordinator, total rewards, elected to enroll in this type of plan in 2015, and, as a young adult who doesn’t visit the doctor very often, he has found it to be a great plan for him — and a great way to save money for future medical expenses.

Whether you opt to enroll in Valencia’s HSA plan or a traditional option, be sure to enroll by Friday, October 28, 2016. (If you want to be entered to win one of two $500 gift cards to Orange Cycle*, be sure to enroll by 8 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2016.)

If you need assistance enrolling, you can attend an enrollment session at a campus computer lab, available during the following dates, times and locations:
