Valencia College’s East Campus Communications and Humanities departments, Library and New Media program, as well as the Valencia Voice, SGA and Book Nerds, will recognize Banned Books Week and First Amendment Day on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. There will be both in-person and virtual events for students and employees. Food will be provided and multiple prizes awarded during the on-campus events.

Time: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Location: East Campus Lawn (in front of Building 5)
Join us to visit Valencia College clubs and community organizations showcasing the first 5 freedoms:
- Freedom of speech
- Freedom of press
- Right to petition
- Freedom of assembly
- Freedom of religion
There will be food, crafts and “protest song” karaoke.
In addition, during Banned Books Week from Sunday, September 18 – Saturday, 24, 2022, there will be a banned-book essay contest and virtual speaker panels and presentations featuring topics such as “Social Media Speech: What if Any Rules Apply,” “Freedom of Religion: What that Really Means” and “Be an Informed Voter (check the Valencia College LibGuide for more information, times and dates).
Faculty will have classroom ideas and material resources available in order to engage students; these resources will be available in the Banned Books Week/First Amendment Day LibGuide.
