Shared Governance Review Recommendations
ShareLast year the College Planning Council (CPC) commissioned the creation of a governance review steering committee. The purpose of reviewing Valencia’s governance process was to assess our progress, evaluate our practice, and to create plans for evolving our governance system to meet the demands of the next decade.
The committee consisted of career, professional and administrative staff and faculty members who thoroughly reviewed governance documents and collected quantitative and qualitative feedback from employees. From the data collected, the committee crafted a detailed set of recommendations for the continuance and improvement of our signature process of collaborative governance at Valencia.
“As you can imagine after a year of study, the steering committee members discovered a long list of findings and recommendations for the college,” said Michele McArdle, executive dean at the Winter Park Campus and co-chair of the committee.
Click here to read a summary of the process, findings and recommendations from the review. The recommendations are currently being reviewed by Dr. Sandy Shugart, Valencia College president.
The co-chairs of the committee, Michele McArdle and Michael Shugg, theater professor, would like to extend their appreciation to the committee members: Richard Bogue, adjunct speech instructor, Joanna Branham, library/ACS accounting specialist, Dan Dutkofski, dean of fine arts on the West Campus, Kurt Ewen, assistant vice president of assessment and institutional effectiveness, Joe Sarrubbo, administrative manager for student services on the West Campus, and Liza Schellpfeffer, speech professor.
A special note of thanks is extended to Richard Bogue for his authorship of the inquiry report.
Additionally, the co-chairs would like to thank the 29 members of the governance review resource panel, and Amy Bosley, associate vice president of organizational communication and development, and her team for providing the administrative support that enabled this work to flourish.
