Sharing Valencia’s Programs and College Life with Future Students

A Message from Stacey Johnson, President, East and Winter Park Campuses

The East Campus Transitions Planning team welcomed 394 students — ranging from elementary to high school students — during the fall term. During the students’ visit, the team shared information on Valencia’s programs and college life.

During one visit, Valencia Promise students viewed a presentation that provided information about Valencia certificate and degree programs, financial aid options and overall college readiness. Students also toured the new Arts and Entertainment building, led by Eric Fleming, professor, film production technology. In addition, students got an in-depth look at the new Dolby Atmos Theater and were encouraged to pursue their careers fervently after Eric shared his career history prior to starting at Valencia.

On another visit, students from Acceleration East High School came to East Campus to learn about future careers and certificate and degree programs. Their campus tour provided a real glimpse of what studies with Valencia could look like and immersed students in our vibrant campus culture. During the visit, Transitions Planning helped students complete the Valencia College admissions application and partnered with financial learning ambassadors, who provided assistance with the FAFSA application and discussed financial aid options.

In an effort to bridge the gap between high school and college, Transitions Planning hosts K-12 school groups throughout the year. It’s a fact that many of our students come from single-parent homes or may be first-generation college students. “Our goal is to provide as immersive of an experience as we can to show students that Valencia College is an attainable, exciting option for them to pursue their college degree,” said Coordinator of College Transition and Immersive Experiences Edith Montes. “We are so thankful for assistance from our campus partners and are always interested in building more throughout campus.”
