Take Sabbatical Leave and Renew Your Professional Skills

Applications for Sabbatical Leave for the 2013-2014 academic year are now being accepted. The purpose of Sabbatical leave is to provide professional renewal for eligible faculty, administrators, and professional staff employees. A sabbatical should provide the individual a significant opportunity for new, or renewed, achievement and growth through activities such as study, research, writing, creative work and travel so that the individual’s teaching and/or professional effectiveness may be enhanced.

Eligibility

Full-time tenured faculty, administrators, and professional staff with at least seven years of continuous qualifying Valencia service and not in the Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) are eligible to apply for a sabbatical leave.  For more information, please refer to the Sabbatical Leave policy and procedure.

Important Deadlines:

  • Candidates must submit completed application materials to their dean/immediate supervisor for approval by October 24th, 2011. If the immediate supervisor is not a senior administrator, then the proposal, if approved by the immediate supervisor, is forwarded to the senior administrator to whom he or she reports for consideration.
  • Applications approved by the dean/immediate supervisor and endorsed by their senior administrator, as appropriate, must be submitted to the office of the Director of Faculty Development (wdew@valenciacollege.edu) by October 31st, 2011.
  • The Sabbatical Leave Committee will evaluate and make recommendations to the President by January 1st, 2012.
  • Applicants granted sabbatical leaves, as well as their dean/immediate supervisor, will be notified by the President no later than January 10th, 2012.
