Welcome Erin Ohlsen, Valencia Foundation Director of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving

A Message from Angela Mendolaro, Chief Philanthropy Officer, Valencia Foundation

Please join me in welcoming Erin Ohlsen to the Valencia Foundation team. Erin officially joined Valencia College on Monday, February 25, 2019, as the director of alumni engagement and annual giving for the Valencia Foundation.

An experienced director of philanthropy, Erin’s experience is vast and includes work within higher education, health-related, non-profit organizations and museums and historic sites. Most recently, prior to accepting her role at Valencia, she served the University of Florida associate director of membership and philanthropy for the Office of Alumni Relations.

Erin earned her bachelor’s degree in history from Florida Atlantic University and her master’s degree in museum communications from the University of the Arts. She also holds a certificate in volunteer management.

Her experience makes her the perfect person for her role, which is heavily focused on developing and executing alumni engagement programs and increasing financial contributions made by alumni and others to the Valencia Foundation.

“I was attracted to this role thanks to Valencia’s reputation for excellence and its strong focus on student success,” Erin said, “plus, the chance to join a dynamic team of thought leaders and innovators all working toward making higher education more accessible. Once I started my interview process with the Foundation, I was blown away to learn that last year the Foundation distributed over $2 million in scholarships to more than 5,000 students. I attended a community college, and it laid the foundation for me to go on and pursue my bachelor’s degree and master’s degree. The opportunity to enhance programs that support all facets of student and alumni success was something that I couldn’t pass-up.”

Specifically, she says, she’s looking forward to supporting student transitions — including transitions from higher education to the workforce and one higher education institution to another — as well as creative collaborations to enhance Valencia’s culture of philanthropy.
