A Message from John Slot, Vice President, Information Technology and Chief Information Officer
Welcome Karen Wilson, our new director, information technology (IT) project management office, who will develops and oversees all College IT project management initiatives and programs, while ensuring projects are delivered on time, to budget and to a quality standard.
Karen, who is originally from Hanover, Pennsylvania (think Snyder’s of Hanover pretzels and Utz’s potato chips), has lived in Florida for more than 30 years.
Prior to joining Valencia, she spent the bulk of her professional career with Universal Orlando Resort starting prior to the opening of Universal Studios. She worked in the technology field for almost 20 years, progressing from IT systems management to project management and eventually leading a Project Management Office (PMO) responsible for seven IT business analysts, 13 IT project managers and the governance of IT projects for all Universal parks located in Florida, California and Japan.
She received an Associate in Arts from Valencia and a Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Central Florida. She’s working on a master’s degree in technical communications, taking a brief pause to focus on her new role here.
Karen is a huge baseball fan, especially the Tampa Bay Rays, but she says she’ll root for all teams except the New York Yankees. She loves to travel and has visited all 30 major league parks and all 50 states.
“I am excited to be here at Valencia, a college which holds a special place in my heart, and have found it to be a very welcoming environment,” Karen shared as she explained that her spouse and son also attended Valencia. “I look forward to contributing to the success of our students and the College overall, by leading our PMO and working with all OIT team members to deliver valuable technology-based solutions ‘when’ and ‘how’ they are needed.”
