A message from Falecia Williams, President, West Campus
Welcome to Valencia’s West Campus for the spring semester of the 2014 – 15 academic year! We courageously began the academic year signaling a yearlong season of reflection and renewal. After 18 months or so of redefining the “college-ready” student, revamping developmental education, managing textbook adoptions, examining faculty workload, re-envisioning the student enrollment funnel and redesigning employee services, it was important for us to exhale and recall our aspirational mission to transform lives through the power of education.
As we start a new semester, I encourage you to maintain your reflective posture. While we relish the areas of substantive achievement in our work, we remain challenged by the reality of fundamental changes that have occurred. Undoubtedly, there will be time in the upcoming semesters to finish stranded dialogues and initiate new spirited conversations about where we go from here. This semester, however, we stay the course of calm waters and contemplative spirits.
Join me in welcoming our new and returning students by greeting them in the hallways, helping them navigate the campus, attending a Welcome Back event and wishing them good success in their studies. OUR COLLEGE IS WHAT OUR STUDENTS EXPERIENCE, and I’m delighted YOU will play a positive and memorable role in their academic attainment and personal development. Remember, the POWER OF ONE resides within YOU! Make a connection with a student and enhance a life for the better.
